Thanksgiving - from our Headmaster

As the Thanksgiving break approaches and we prepare once more to gather our far-flung families and loved ones under one roof, it is good to count our blessings, not only to deepen that joy that is found in gratitude, but also to be the more able to share that joy with those who will share our tables.

I am thankful for the opportunity to serve your children, my students, to walk with them during these four formative years of their lives, to witness the gifts and callings that they have been given and to use my brief cameo in their lives to help them discover the adventure of their vocation.

I am thankful for you, the families of Chesterton, for your support, for the good example in virtue and high standards that you provide your children, and for your willingness to share your time and talents in the many ways you do.

I am thankful for my faculty, who share "one equal temper of heroic hearts", who delight in wonder, and take joy in the passing on of the flame from one mind to the next.

I am thankful for our founders and benefactors who support us in many ways visible and invisible, and the courage to take steps in the dark.

I am thankful for the members of our community that have gone before me, and those that have left this world, as I am thankful for those who will follow me, and who will keep our traditions alive.

I am thankful for our budding alumni, who still are unfolding the mystery of their vocations, and who will yet accomplish still greater things.

I am thankful for our chaplain Fr. Ryan and his investment in the spiritual health of our community.

And lastly, for the tabernacle, and for the sacrifice of the Mass, and the sacraments that answer our hunger in ways that the goods of this world cannot fulfill, I am thankful.

I hope you too find much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving, and have as much mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, and cranberry sauce as you and yours could wish for.

In Christ,

Dan Janeiro, Headmaster
