Visits from Fr. Fessio and Fr. Cromly

This week we welcomed both Fr. Joseph Fessio of Ignatius Press and Fr. Nathan Cromly of Eagle Eye Ministries to campus.

Fr. Fessio was in town this week to give a well-attended and fascinating talk on the theology of wine hosted at The Carlisle in Lombard. He came to campus on Thursday, October 7, for a tour of the school, and a number of our faculty, staff, and students had the chance to speak with him. He also dropped by the senior literature class as they read through and discussed Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations.

On Friday, over a dozen Chesterton parents had an informal coffee and conversation with Fr. Nathan Cromly, the Founder and President of Eagle Eye Ministries and a well-known speaker. Fr. Nathan welcomed parents to ask about the issues that were most urgent to them as parents. The conversation covered obedience and parental authority, anger about the state of the world, and the importance of fatherhood and how wives should properly respect and support their husbands as strong fathers.

Fr. Nathan’s talk also covered the power that parents have to fight the destructive forces at play in the world today. The devil might have power in the world, but only parents have authority over their children, and because of that they can win the battle for the souls of the next generation. He recommended that when we get angry about the state of politics or the church, channel that anger into working for the school because this is where future bishops and Catholic leaders will be made if we work together.

He also recommended that we delete our news apps!

We are so grateful for the wisdom these wonderful priests brought to our community this week. Parents, be sure to keep an eye out for more opportunities like Coffee and Conversation, as well as our Chesterton Supper Clubs (a parent-only event). If you haven’t already signed up, please sign up for the October 16 Supper Club at Sts. Peter and Paul in Naperville with a talk from our chaplain, Fr. Ryan Adorjan!
