Chesterton Weekly 2/5/21
“When we step into the family, by the act of being born, we do step into a world which is incalculable, into a world which has its own strange laws, into a world which could do without us, into a world we have not made. In other words, when we step into the family we step into a fairy-tale.”
― G.K. Chesterton

Gala Updates
Gala Parties: Simple, Elegant, and Successful
For those of you who are having gala parties instead of coming to Bobak’s for the event, here are all the considerations of hosting a gala party. If you have reached out to us about hosting, we will call you this week to touch base on any questions you might have.
Schedule
Start Time: 6:00 p.m. (recommended — so that your guests have time to get signed up for the auction and for our gala website before the program begins)
Livestreamed Program (all parties need to participate): 8:00 p.m. Please note that your party will not be on camera. It will just be video shared with you by our streaming video provider, and you will sign on to it around 6:00 p.m.
End Time: 9:30 p.m. …or later if you like!
Technology needed: an internet connection, a TV, and computer to hookup to or connect via SmartTV apps (e.g., Apple TV, Google Chrome, etc.)
We will provide the streaming link so you can show the gala program while your guests bid and pledge donations through our mobile-ready gala website on their phones. To access the link, you’ll just need to click on the link we send you at the appointed time!
Provide food and drinks: your choice of anything from heavy hors d’oeuvres to a full multi-course meal.
Guests will purchase tickets via our gala website, and we will call you directly to know how many tickets to make available for your party. Only guests with tickets may attend. The school will provide a batch of programs and other materials for your guests.
The ticket donation for those who attend home parties will be $100; unlike the on-site gala tickets for Bobak’s ($125; $50 is non-deductible) the $100 donation for attending a home party is 100% deductible. You, as a host, do not have to pay for a gala ticket.
CATHF families will have their Chesterton student (or a few) with them. The students and are our best ambassadors, and we’ll provide a little training for them on how to be great hosts.
The livestream event will be at 8:15 PM and last about 45 minutes. We ask that you build your event around that event since the program will share testimonials and information about the school.
Gala Tickets for Senior Students and Their Families
Seniors and senior families: Please check your Jupiter Ed messages for the informal RSVP form for on-site tickets at Bobak’s!
The Raffle Ticket Contest
It looks like the houses of Ambrose, Athanasius, and Augustine are in a tight race to win the annual raffle-ticket selling contest. It’s hard to guess who will win. Could the mighty House of Augustine finally be dethroned?! And will the House of Chrysostom keep apace with the other houses?!
Either way, let’s all work together to sell 750 total tickets. That’s $75,000 in revenue for the gala, which is a significant portion of our fundraising goal this year, and a huge help for those who may need financial aid next year. When you sell a raffle ticket, you’re making it possible for families from all walks of life to attend Chesterton.
So be sure to double down on selling your raffle tickets this week because the house that sells the most tickets between, Saturday, February 6 (starting at 12 a.m.) and next Wednesday, February 10 (ending at 11:59 p.m.) gets 20 house points for the White Horse Cup Competition.

Auction Update
Thanks to the many of you who have donated items for the silent auction! With your help, our amazing auction team has been hard at work procuring, organizing, and beautifying the baskets. Among some of the many great items coming in, the auction will now also feature a brand new Weber Grill with a custom Chesterton grill cover, a beautiful portrait of The Holy Family, a first edition book by G.K. Chesterton himself, the entire Great Books set from the University of Chicago, and several Yeti coolers.
We look forward to opening bidding soon!
House Baskets Theme
Every year, each House is asked to procure an auction basket based off a theme chosen by the school. This year’s theme is: Eternal Cities. Please take a look at this document for all the details on putting the basket together!
Open Mic Night
Open Mic Night is next Friday! We have a phenomenal lineup for you all, and it’s going to be one of our best shows yet. Open Mic Night will take place shortly after dismissal, and school cleaning, at 4:30 p.m. in the St. Sebastian Gymnasium. Unfortunately, we will not be able to have family members attend and we are limiting the event to current students.
Spring Sports
Spring sports will be beginning soon! We are ironing out the last little details for the various teams and will be sending out a registration link soon.
Junior Play
The junior class has been hard at work preparing the inspiring drama: Song of Bernadette. We will have several performances throughout the weekend of February 20th. The junior play only consists of one cast, so the same cast will be acting in all 4 performances. The performances will be taking place on the following dates:
Thursday the 18th at 6:30pm
Friday the 19th at 7pm
Saturday the 20th at 2:30pm and 7pm
An RSVP form has been sent to the juniors and their families. We will send a link to purchase tickets to the rest of our students and their families once we take care of the junior families’ tickets.
Note on Ladies’ Uniform Socks/Tights
As the winter season intensifies, we highly recommend that the ladies begin wearing their Schoolbelles opaque tights for added warmth. While the tights are not required, they really do add an extra level of warmth and comfort that our ladies would appreciate. Take a look at the uniform page for details on the acceptable uniform tights to wear. They are in the uniform chart, which can be found by scrolling down the page and looking at the section on Socks. Please, ladies, also review that section and make sure you have the correct socks (crew-length socks are not considered acceptable uniform socks).
Here is to staying warm and cozy!
