Chesterton Weekly 4/23/21

“Charity means pardoning the unpardonable, or it is no virtue at all. Hope means hoping when things are hopeless, or it is no virtue at all. And faith means believing the incredible, or it is no virtue at all.”

Fine Arts Festival

Thank you for another beautiful night! We are so grateful to everyone who helped with the evening, especially our Fine Arts teachers! The singing was gorgeous, the dancing was fantastic, and the artwork blew us away. It was such a beautiful night and we loved seeing all the incredible talents of our students.

2021 Fall Semester Prefects

We have chosen your 2021 fall semester prefects! Thank you so much to all our students who went through the selection process. You all wrote beautiful cover letters, impressive resumes, and we loved our interviews with you! It was an extremely tough decision with each house, but ultimately, we had to narrow it down. Without further ado… let us introduce your 2021 fall semester prefects!

The House of Athanasius:

Mr. Michael Nawas and Ms. Anna Buonincontro

The House of Chrysostom:

Ms. Cecilia Jansen and Mr. Anders Elk

The house of Ambrose:

Ms. Isabella Fairclough and Ms. Mary Kish

The house of Augustine:

Ms. Grace. Reznicek and Mr. Ben Beto

We cannot wait to see you lead your house this next school year! Go Saints!

Fr. Ryan Adorjan Returning as Chaplain in 2021-2022

We are pleased to share that Fr. Ryan Adorjan will be returning as our chaplain next year! We would also like to congratulate him on his new assignment as the parochial vicar at Sts. Peter and Paul in Naperville. It will be great to have him closer to campus, and we look forward to seeing what the new year brings.

Freshmen and Sophomore Retreats

Thanks to Fr. Adorjan, we have retreats next week for our sophomore and freshmen classes. The freshman retreat will be on Tuesday beginning around 10 a.m. and finishing at the end of the school day. The sophomore retreat will be on Thursday beginning around 10 a.m. and finishing at the end of the school day.

Classical Learning Test 10 (CLT10)- Sophomores

Our sophomore class will have the opportunity to take the CLT10 on Wednesday, April 28th beginning in first period. The testing period will be just over 2 hours long. Pencils and scratch paper will be provided by the school. No calculators are allowed. Timepieces (analog or digital watches) are allowed, but not smartwatches/health-tracker watches with internet connectivity or messaging capabilities. No reference materials, books, snacks, or drinks are permitted in the testing area.

The CLT was founded in 2015 to provide alternative standardized testing (to SAT and ACT) rooted in tradition and using modern technology. CLT offers students from diverse educational backgrounds and exceptional opportunity to demonstrate their academic formation. Notably, the CLT features passages from great works across a variety of disciplines and cultures. As you may have heard, Chesterton Academy of The Holy Family ranked 13th in the CLT’s list of Top 25 High Schools in the nation (up two places from our standing in the first year of rankings in 2019).

There are three reasons why we are requiring the students to take this test. This test will serve as a standardized test so that we, as an academy, can see how well we are educating your children in the different areas examined. The students will get an experience taking another college entrance test which, we expect, will enable them to better showcase the strengths which they have developed in our classical curriculum. Students will receive an analytics report so that they can become more aware of their own strengths and weaknesses and see how their scores correspond to the ACT and SAT.

CLT test takers are also eligible for a number of great scholarship opportunities. These include partial and full scholarships to schools like Hillsdale College, St. John’s College, University of Dallas, Belmont Abbey College, Franciscan University at Steubenville, and Wyoming Catholic College. For more information, visit: https://cltexam.com/scholarships

To test well, remember to get a good night’s sleep, eat breakfast, get to school with a few extra minutes and be prepared.

Good luck, sophomores!

Join the Yearbook Team!

Students, it’s that time! The yearbook club will be holding its first informational meeting this upcoming Tuesday, the 27th, right after school. We will announce the meeting location during morning announcements. Yearbook club is a great way to develop journalism skills and hang out with your classmates, and it looks great on a resume. We hope to see you there!

Discipleship Opportunities

Can you believe we are almost to the end of the year! We have a few major events coming up, like the senior play and graduation, and we could use a few extra hands. If you are interested in discipleship opportunities here at Chesterton, let us know using this link. Thank you for your generosity!!
