October Open House
Our October Open House is two weeks away, October 13 from 9am - 11am, and it is filling up! Please tell your friends and family to RSVP as soon as they can. You are our best ambassadors to prospective Chesterton families, and we rely on your help to promote the school among your friends, family, and neighbors. We can send your student home with open house postcards, brochures, or posters, or you could pick them up yourself at our office.
And don’t forget about your parish bulletin or Sunday coffee! We can send you digital copies of our admissions materials to put in your parish bulletin. Just let Ms. Emily Ambuul (emily.ambuul@cathf.com) know what you need, and she will get it to you!
Our Lady of the Rosary Procession
October 7 is the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary and we will celebrate it by doing a rosary procession immediately following mass. All families are invited to join us for mass at 11:35 with the rosary promptly after. Please RSVP with this link to join us!
If you cannot make it to the rosary, read the note below and bring flowers instead!
Roses for The Blessed Mother
During this month of the Rosary, we are going to reinstate a tradition that we were unable to do last year. Flowers for Mary started our very first year and is a way for school families and staff to help honor Mary. Sign up for one week for your family to bring flowers to place by one of our Mary statues.
Please bring one vase of flowers to school on Monday morning for Mary. Any flowers will do in a simple and beautiful arrangement to honor Mary. Your student(s) will be in charge of checking the water as needed during the week.
*We do have vases you can borrow if needed.
Please sign up to bring roses here.
Senior CLT - What is the CLT?
On Wednesday, Oct. 6, the Senior class will take the Classic Learning Test (CLT) (https://www.cltexam.com/home).
What is the CLT, you ask?
The CLT was founded in 2015 to provide alternative standardized testing (to SAT and ACT) rooted in tradition and using modern technology. CLT offers students from diverse educational backgrounds and exceptional opportunity to demonstrate their academic formation. Notably, the CLT features passages from great works across a variety of disciplines and cultures.
There are three reasons why we are requiring the students to take this test. (i) This test will serve as a standardized test so that we, as an academy, can see how well we are educating your children in the different areas examined. (ii) The students will get an experience taking another college entrance test which, we expect, will enable them to better showcase the strengths which they have developed in our classical curriculum. (iii) Students will receive an analytics report so that they can become more aware of their own strengths and weaknesses and see how their scores correspond to the ACT and SAT.
CLT test takers are also eligible for a number of great scholarship opportunities. These include partial and full scholarships to schools like Hillsdale College, St. John’s College, University of Dallas, Belmont Abbey College, Franciscan University at Steubenville, and Wyoming Catholic College. Operation Andrew Dinner - a vocations event in our Diocese
On Wednesday, October 27 from 6:30pm - 8pm, the Diocese of Joliet will be hosting their Operation Andrew Dinner at Notre Dame Parish in Clarendon Hills. The dinner is an informal evening where young men will have the chance to eat with Fr. Steven Borello, the Vocations Director of the Diocese of Joliet, and other priests of the diocese. At this dinner, guests will hear vocation stories, watch a short video on vocations, ask the priests questions, and have the chance to meet other young men interested in knowing more about the priesthood. Better yet, dads may join their sons for the evening.
Please take a look at this poster for more information and to register!
Fall Field Day
Our Fall Field Day is on October 20, just two and a half weeks away! Field days consist of intellectual, artistic, and athletic competitions between the four houses for a full school day. Students will need to wear their house t-shirts and dress in their house colors (blue for Ambrose, red for Athanasius, green for Chrysostom, and yellow for Augustine).
Students, find those house tees! If a student misplaced a house tee, he can buy one here. The link is also on the student page, so please look for it there as well. If a student does not come dressed in his house colors and shirt, he must come in full uniform.
We look forward to a day of friendly and spirited competition. This is a huge chance to win points for your house!
Harvest Dance - October 30
Our annual Fall Harvest Dance will be on October 30 from 6:30pm - 9:30pm. Mrs. Vanda Varnai-Garcia will be teaching all sorts of fun line dances, country dances, and more! Our senior class will be the hosts of the evening, so please keep an eye out for more information on dress code and all the evening’s details. We are so excited to dance the night away!
